The form of artist Yasmin Müller’s performs reminds of furnishings, far more precisely objects to sit on, like chairs, armchairs or a chaise longue, but they’ve been stripped of their function.

“Caramel – as sweet and soft this exhibition-title may sound, the works that Yasmin Müller (born 1977 in Villingen-Schwenningen) is displaying in her solo-show at Cruise & Callas are nothing at all like that, at all.” says gallery Cruise & Callas. “The artist arranged 5 black metal objects in the gallery space, initially confronting the viewer with a cold aesthetic and a repelling strength. Some objects create groups, some stand solitarily in the space.”

“Stripped of their function since seating surfaces, back and arm rests are perforated by bars or are even non-existent, it is impossible to sit on them. The single metal bars are irregularly intertwined and type repetitive patterns.”

“Looking at them with the white background of the wall, the graphical lines of the bars outgrow their original function and autonomously create further from their original kind, they pierce via space and incorporate their surrounding. They embody what they in fact would embrace, therefore transforming from a mere functional object to an individualized topic.”

Caramel, the exhibition, is at the Cruise & Callas gallery from March 1 until April 12, 2014.
